Thanks to its unique ultra-porous structure MicroSilver BG™ attains a surface area of up to 5 m² per gram and an average particle size of 10 micrometers. The effective antimicrobial agents are the Ag+ silver ions present in MicroSilver BG™. They disrupt core functions of micro-organisms such as bacteria and thus prevent cell division and reproduction or kill the cells directly.

The MicroSilver BG™ particles only deploy their full efficacy at the point where they are needed: on the surface of the skin. The active silver ions are released from the particles’ surface by an electrolytic process (oxidisation) and act on the immediately surrounding area, e.g. by fighting harmful skin germs. They can also be described as “silver ion factories”, finely spread over the whole area of treated skin. Unlike with other silver ion-based products, this prevents the silver ions becoming obscured and thereby inactivated by other substances, either in the formulation or shortly after application. A long-term effect is sustained, as the particles remain on the skin unless removed by vigorous washing.

For humans the use of MicroSilver BG™ is completely harmless, as the particles are micro-scale and thus much too large to penetrate the skin. This quality also means that the antimicrobial effect takes place only where it is wanted, namely on the skin. A relevant study has demonstrated the highest levels of product safety for users and dermatological reviews bear witness to excellent cosmetic effects.
