Sophisticated production process: from natural ores to fine silver

Silver has been produced since 5000 BC and was known to the ancient Egyptians as “moon metal”. It does not naturally occur as a pure element but is extracted from silver, lead and copper ores. The silver obtained by special chemical processes is refined into fine silver by electrolysis and cast in ingots and rods. These rods are compressed to improve their stability and then turned into silver wire by the use of rollers, roll stands and multiple drawing machines.

From silver wire to MicroSilver BG™

The silver wire is transformed into ultra-porous micro silver in powder form by a high-tech process unique to Bio-Gate. This involves vaporising the precious metal under special conditions in a vacuum process, which causes the powder to precipitate in the reactor. This is a purely mechanical manufacturing process; unlike some of our competitors’ products, MicroSilver BG™ is not a chemically manufactured product.

In a second production stage the powder is graded. Coarse particles which do not correspond to the range stipulated in the specifications are separated from material that meets specifications. Each batch is tested for quality to ensure our clients receive an analytically tested high-tech product. The analysis values are documented in a special certificate delivered with the product.

After these process steps the silver is used as MicroSilver BG™ in the cosmetic industry for example, but in the paint and medical equipment sectors MicroSilver BG™ is now also used as an antimicrobial additive.
